Condoleeza Rice lies about WMD and Iraq

Condoleeza Rice is one of the most prominent spokespeople for the Bush administration. Time has found her face repeatedly on cable outlets and being quoted in newspapers propagating statements to soothe the public into willingly accept the actions of the administration and the GOP. Unfortunately, she has made conflicting statements about an invasion which has so far cost over 1700 Americans their lives.

In February of 2000, when asked how the United States should react if Sadam acquired WMD, National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice said,

"The first line of defense...should be a clear and classical statement of deterrence—if they do acquire WMD, their weapons will be unusable because any attempt to use them will bring national obliteration."

Here is the National Security Advisor to the President of the United States clearly stating, "if they acquired WMD". The NSA in 2000 did not state Sadam has WMD, and given her responsibility and tremendoues access, she certainly would be someone to know. It is her responsibility.

But Condi's tone later changed quite dramatically, sometime after the decision to invade Iraq was made. Here is Condoleeza Rice speaking about Sadam and WMD in November of 2002....

"He already has other weapons of mass destruction."

And here is Condi again in January of 2003...

But we don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud."

What we have here is quite a reversal, and this from the National Security Advisor. Before 9/11, Condoleeza Rice suggested Sadam did not have WMD. But after the hawks in the administration who have been pining to invade Iraq for many years get the ball rolling, Condoleeza Rice is willing to tell the public whatever it takes to advance Bush administration policies but of course.. without evidence.

No weapons of mass destruction have been found and the Iraqi Survey Group has abandoned the search. Over 1700 Americans have died and Condoleeza Rice has been promoted to Secretary of State.
