Rush Evades Challenge from Evanston High School Students

Limbaugh is quite used to sitting behind his microphone issuing attack after attack against anyone and anything that is convenient in his effort to appease his audience. Whether it be taxes, world cooperation, democratic candidates or education, Limbaugh will say anything he believes his audience wishes to hear... facts be damned.

On Tuesday, Limbaugh spoke of a story about the global studies class at Evanston Township High School in Evanston Illinois and saw this as a targtet for his usual brand of demagogeury. When refering to the Evanston Township High School Student, Limbaugh insisted...

"they don't know anything about World War II"

"they've probably never heard the name Adolph Hitler"

There is absolutely ZERO basis for Limbaugh to make negative comments about the ETHS students for learning about other cultures and insist they know nothing about history. He knows nothing about their academic achievement. The history curriculum is good at ETHS, whose students consistently perform well on the standardized tests (including the history portion) the right is so enamored with. The multicultural class is not in place of American history. It is a seperate class and American history is absolutley a requirement just as it is in other schools. Evanston Township also offers courses in seven different languages. Limbaugh should recall that business and government need people learned in other cultures and languages. Certainly Limbaugh cannot depended on for such skills and knowledge.

Perhaps Limbaugh's most asinie assertion was the one involving Hitler. In addition to completing course work addressing Hitler, Evanston has a very large Jewish community and Evanston Township High School hosts a Holocaust Rememberance Day each year. This is yet another shining example of the hollowness of Limbaugh's rhetoric. He attacked a group of students for getting an education and did so completely without foundation. Perhaps if Limbaugh had completed college, he would better appreciate the value of education.

The students of Evanston Township High School were obviously displeased with Rush's attack and challenged him to a debate. A professor at Evanston Township called the show to extend the students' offer. The producer has not called back. So here we have Rush sitting behind a microphone launching baseless attacks on high school students for learning and failing to stand behind his rhetoric when challenged. It is amazing that anyone sees Rush as credible.
