Bush Incompetent While Rush Still FlaksRush Limbaugh loves to assert that he represents "mainstream America", infering that everybody who doesn't approve of Bush, his performance and his policies is some sort of America hating abberation. Thing of it is, the majority of Americans are waking up to the fact that Bush is not the strong leader that people such as Limbaugh claim. "Mainstream" America has spoken and using Limbaugh's "calculus", he is in the fringe group. Earlier this March, Pew Research did a study asking respondents to use a single word to describe President GW Bush. Only 28% of repsondents used a positive word to express their view of the President. A clear majority of 48% of respondents used a negative word to characterize their view of President Bush.
The word most frequently used to describe Bush is incompetent. This should come as no surprise. Bush's performance during hurricane Katrina involved sitting around in Crawford
Texas on a month long vacation while the denuded FEMA floundered miserably at responding to the worst domestic natural disaster in modern times. Incompetent easily describes
the utter lack of objective analysis used in planning and executing strategy in Iraq (not going was the best option). The Bush administration decided that sending in a small amount
of troops to knock down Sadam and take Baghdad would lead the opposition to simply give up, leaving in the wake a population of Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites singing "Michael row the boat
ashore". The problem with that is the reality of the tensions and tendencies that have long existed in Iraq and throughout the Middle East. Into the war, the incompetence on display by
the civilian leadership has been galactic and stunning.
Cutting tax cuts for the rich especially at a time of war, borrowing to fund a historically high debt, failing to veto a single bill, telling lies, promoting incompetent administration officials, attempting to let a middle eastern country with a history of supporting Islamic radicals run domestic ports and failing to secure the borders even after 9/11 can justifably be described as incompetence. Even with the hot air, say anything rhetoric from people such as Rush who have air time to sell, events have landed President George W. Bush firmly out of favor with the people. Too bad Limbaugh lacks the character and patriotism necessary to recognize when a President is doing a very poor job. Clearly, Rush Limbaugh does not speak for mainstream America.
