Rush Limbaugh's latest irresponsible Iraq rhetoric... Rush Limbaugh continues make unfounded and misleading statements regarding the war in Iraq. Rush is certainly not a policy analyst, military planner or strategist. Given the significance of what is occurring in Iraq and the need for the public to gain a rational understanding, Rush’s statements and bombast is beyond irresponsible. “The liberals want the French and the Germans to come in because of some little terrorist incidents”. There is nothing “little” about the terrorist incidents happening in Iraq. A truck bomb at the UN Headquarters, bombing at the Jordanian embassy, soldiers being attacked, etc. are not “little events”. Rush also failed to mention that Al-Queda and Sadam were bitterly opposed, with Ossama urging the people of Iraq to rise up against Sadam. Now that the country is in chaos, Al-Queda is presented with a smorgasborg of targets, primarily Americans. Hundreds of Americans have been killed since George W. Bush donned a flight and made his famous photo-op. “in a couple of years, when things calm down, the oil spigots will be on, now these pansies (French and Germans) want in so they can be a part of it”. This is coming from a man who evaded serving his country under the guise of a pilonidal cyst. Rush does not know when things will “calm down”. Nobody does. The Russians, French, Germans, etc. are not “wanting in”. So far, none have been clamoring to get “in”. “we don’t need more troops, we just need better intelligence”. Currently, the Iraqi people have little power, little water, millions have no jobs, no security or medical care. At risk is a rebellion against the American presence. Bringing security and services is fundamental to staving off further attacks and the possibility of a larger rebellion. As it stands, 93% of the forces in Iraq are American with majority of combat deaths being American. The price to the taxpayer is 1 billion dollars per week. And some say the cost can easily rise higher. Paul Bremmer requested 50,000 more troops and the Whitehouse is said to be "not happy about it". More troops and funding from other countries would be an obvious step in the right direction and shoud be welcomed. "Why in the world would we want people like them, like de Villepin or Chirac, to come in and start sharing command decisions about what happens now? Silly! We can handle it. We're the United States of America." In August a team sent by the Pentagon found, "The scope of the challenges, the financial requirements, and rising anti-Americanism in parts of Iraq argue for a new coalition that includes countries and organizations beyond the original war fighting coalition". In light of the fact that most of the soldiers who die in Iraq are American, it appears Al-Queda is moving in, the cost is 1 billion dollars per week, there exists a risk of rebellion from the Iraqi people who have no jobs, little power, little water and no security, internationalizing post-war Iraq is very prudent. Rush Limbaugh who evaded the draft knows nothing about troop strength, foreign policy, Iraq, terrorism or intelligence. Rational people should not take him seriously. He should not be regarded as a sound voice. As Americans die and the taxpayer foots the bill, Rush’s rhetoric is simplistic and wildly irresponsible.
