Iraq Terrorist Amnesty : Republicans Selling Out the Troops to Terrorist Murderers

Republicans embrace amnesty for terrorists who have killed our troops

Rush Limbaugh has long been selling his show to listeners by associating himself with the troops, claiming he is a protector of their interests. Yet Rush Limbaugh was famously silent when prominent Republican leaders took to the floor in support of a measure in Iraq that would give amnesty to insurgents who “only” killed American troops. Here are their direct quotes...

MCCONNELL SUGGESTED A RESOLUTION COMMENDING IRAQIS FOR GIVING TERRORISTS AMNESTY. “…might it not just be as useful an exercise to be trying to pass a resolution commending the Iraqi government for the position that they’ve taken today with regard to this discussion of Amnesty?” – Sen. Mitch McConnell
ALEXANDER COMPARED IRAQI AMNESTY FOR TERRORISTS TO NELSON MANDELA’S PEACE EFFORTS. “Is it not true that Nelson Mandela's courage and his ability to create a process of reconciliation and forgiveness was a major factor in what has been a political miracle in Africa…Did not Nelson Mandela, win a - the co-winner of - a noble Nobel Peace Prize just for this sort of gesture?” – Sen. Lamar Alexander
CORNYN IRAQI AMNESTY DEBATE IS “A DISTRACTION.” “It makes no sense for the United States Senate to shake its finger at the new government of Iraq and to criticize them… it really is a distraction from the debate that I think the American people would want us to have.” - Sen. John Cornyn
CHAMBLISS AMNESTY IS OK FOR EX-INSURGENTS AS LONG AS THEY ARE ON OUR SIDE NOW. “Is it not true today that we have Iraqis who are fighting the war against the insurgents, who at one time fought against American troops and other coalition troops as they were marching to Baghdad, who have now come over to our side and are doing one heck of a job of fighting along, side by side, with Americans and coalition forces, attacking and killing insurgents on a daily basis?” - Sen. Saxby Chambliss
STEVENS“IF THAT’S AMNESTY, I’M FOR IT:” “I really believe we ought to try to find some way to encourage that country to demonstrate to those people who have been opposed to what we're trying to do, that it's worthwhile for them and their children to come forward and support this democracy. And if that's amnesty, I'm for it. I'd be for it. And if those people who are, come forward… if they bore arms against our people, what's the difference between those people that bore arms against the Union in the War between the States? What’s the difference between the Germans and Japanese and all the people we’ve forgiven?” – Sen. Ted Stevens

This is beyond sickening. Our troops were sent to invade Iraq and are kept there without much of plan. The thanks they get from the GOP is to shout rhetoric in favor of giving amnesty to insurgents who have been killing them. The next time that ANY of these republicans insist they support the troops, any sensible, patriotic person would would shout them down. Better, if the people of their respective districts had any sense of duty to the troops, they would eagerly vote them out.

So far, we have not heard anything from that "great patriot" George W. Bush who is always eager to don a flight jacket and identify himself as a care taker of the military. You would think the guy who is ultimately responsible for sending our troops to Iraq would publically and vocally stand against giving amnesty to terrorists who have killed American troops. And how about Rush Limbaugh? He is quick to brand anyone who disagrees with Bush policy as a traitor who doesn't care about the troops and in fact jeopardises them by exercising their freedom of speech in such a manner. Giving amnesty to insurgents who have killed American troops is certainly one of the highest ranking forms of aid and comfort. Yet Rush is silent.

This is also yet another example where the media behaved in a VERY corporate way. There was barely a mention anywhere of the move of the Iraq amnesty policy on Television media, both cable and network, (the story line all week was "Bush on a roll") and no coverage of the quotes printed above. One would think that if the media was just out to stick it to the GOP, they would be all over this. They should talk about this because it is important instead of remaining silent because such a discussion might offend Fox News viewers. Once again the media has failed us all.

This should be a galactic wake up call to anyone who believes the GOP is all about patriotism and duty to our troops. They are not. Instead those referenced above are crass politicians and opportunistic entertainers who care about politics and making a buck for themselves than about this country and our military. They are liars of the sickest form.
