Rush Attacking Hillary for Stating Facts... Rush doesn't care what he says when it comes to attacking Hillary. The Hajj is a part of the Muslim faith that often promotes strong religious emotion. Considering the profound fact that radical Islamic fundementalism does represent a danger and many are workign to stave off further attacks, considering occasions where strong religious emotion is experienced is a logical concern. But because Hillary Clinton voiced it, Rush would rather seize the opportunity to attack instead of being reasoned. Then again, reason is not what sells his show. Rush closes this tirade with a myth very popular with conservatives regarding Ossama and Sudan. The Suandese government offered to give Ossama over the government of Saudi Arabia, not the US. The Saudi's knew Ossama to be quite a "hot potatoe" in terms of their own stability and did not want him. There was no "silver platter". But Rush is not one to let facts get in the way.
Ignoring Rush's pejorative descriptions of liberals, Hillary did not seem to state or imply the Hajj is "the most important foreign policy consideration in the world". Instead the Hajj is a religious piligrimage that does lead to strong emotion in the Muslim faith. Any student of Islam would know this as would most people who regularly read a newspaper. It shouldn't be such an obscure fact to Rush. The Hajj is also something the intelligence community thinks about, observes and considers in their calculations regarding possible terrorists events. In regard to Iraq, over 60% of the population is Shiite. It comes as no surprise the Hajj is a fact of religious life to millions of people in Iraq as millions of Iraqis just like practicing Muslims everywhere seek to make the piligrimage at least once in their lifetime. In a discussion about terrorism, refering to the Hajj in no way equates to trying be the "most brilliant woman in the world". It was not known until later that Ossama had any connection to the Ramzi Youseff and the group who conducted the 93 bombing. Rush also failed to note that the rise of Ossama Bin Laden in terms of his threat only became apparent in the late 90's. And still his ability to strike on the US homeland was not determined. Perhaps through the late 90's, the GOP should have focused their attention more on terrorism than purusing baseless, self motivated political scandals. Rush should also perform some research regarding the offer by the Sudanese. Their offer was to hand Ossama to the Saudi government, not the US. There was no "silver platter". The Saudi government knew full well the risk of alienating the fundamentalists in their country and would not take him. While the military was downsized during the 90's, Rush did also fail to knote the policy was established during the term of George H. Bush. Rush also failed to note the budget for counter terrorism and counter intelligence was acutally increased during the 90's. But Rush just doesn't let facts get in the way when it comes to attacking the Clintons. |
