Limbaugh Uses Pat Tillman to Attack NY Times

Limbaugh correctly made the observation, "We can't let heroes be besmirched for politics". This is absolutely true. But then Rush goes on to do exactly what he just said should not be done.

I don't even know how to characterize this. The New York Times today on their website is saying, well, Pat Tillman was motivated because he had some friends that died in the 9/11 attack. Now, there's a subtle attempt here to impugn his motives. So what? It's not true. His family says it's not true. So what if it were?

What does it matter that Pat Tillman joined because he lost friends or family in 9/11, which his family, again, denies. What does it matter? Why try to take the story of Pat Tillman now and massage it so that it's less in the readers of the New York Times?

Limbaugh is making an assertion not even remotely backed up by facts. The New York Times reportedly extensively on the death of Pat Tillman. The reporting spoke of his bravery, sacrifice, selflessness and dedication to his county. Rush insists the Times was attempting to "impugn his motives" and "massage it to be less in the minds of readers". There is absolutley nothing in the reporting of the Times to substantiate this charge.

Rush uses the Times as a proxy for liberals, democrats and non-republicans everywhere. When he attacks the NY Times, he is attacking all things non-republican. Rush began by saying heroes should not be used for politics. But then Rush goes right on to do just that.

Too bad Rush won't follow his own decree. It is amazing that anyone takes this guy seriously.
